When it comes to roofing, BACK Construction has you covered

[bs_lead]Heads up! Learn more about roofing materials below.[/bs_lead]

They shield you and your belongings from inclement weather, invasive creatures, and the harsh rays of the sun… but what roofing material is best for you?

The Basics

Most people don’t know much about roofing materials, outside of how painful a hassle it is to nail your own shingles on a hot summer day. However, your roof shouldn’t be a frustration nor an afterthought. When your roof needs repaired or replaced, we’re here to help, but if you’re just interested in learning more about which roofing material is right for you and your home, we’ve provided this helpful guide.

Shingles

The aforementioned shingle is the bane of many a homeowner’s existence, but it doesn’t have to be. The two types of shingles are asphalt and wood. Most likely, asphalt shingles are what you are familiar with, and what you fear, as they are the most popular roofing material.

Asphalt Shingles

Asphalt shingles are the least expensive roofing option, match many architectural styles, come in a wide variety of colors and styles, easy for a professional to install, and can be reinforced with fiberglass or organic materials, while keeping their color and overall appearance. On the downside, asphalt shingles do not hold up as well as other roofing materials and will eventually require replacement, usually around 20 to 25 years. Also, asphalt shingles do not insulate your home as well as some roofing materials.

Wood Shingles

While wood shingles last about 5 years longer than asphalt shingles, they also cost more and require more maintenance. Despite the higher price, many homeowners love the natural, rustic look of wood shingles, the way they age with time, resulting in a fetching grayish hue, and the way they compliment historic homes, bungalows, Cape Cods, cottages, Tudor, and Craftsman homes. Wood shingles can be purchased in a variety of woods to match your home and taste, including cedar, redwood, pine, etc. As appealing as wood shingles are visually, they are not right for all climates, as they are susceptible to mold, as well as splitting or rotting. Additionally, some zoning laws do not allow them, due to their inherent fire risk, but wood shingles can be purchased with a fire-resistant coating.

Tile

Traditionally, roof tiles have been made of clay, which requires professional installation and provides both a romantic aesthetic and additional texture to any Mediterranean, Mission, Southwestern, Spanish-style, or ranch home. An alternative to clay tiles, concrete tiles are more cost effective and give roofs a similar appearance to clay tiles. Both tiles are very durable, non-combustible, last approximately 40 to 50 years, and come in a variety of styles, including flat, ribbed, curved, and scalloped. Although concrete tiles are more affordable than clay tiles, neither is cheap, and both require weight bearing framing be added to your home. So, both clay and concrete tile roofs can be a hefty, though worthwhile, investment.

Enjoy Peace of Mind
They removed some hardy board siding that had been exposed to lots of water and was rotten...Took old out, replaced with new, primed, caulked and painted all in one morning. Schon Holman was magnificent. He knew what he was doing, came dressed suiting the quality of work I expected, did a thorough, perfect job, left site immaculate and was professional in his conversation and demeanor. Would definitely use Schon and BACK again.
Today concludes my home updating experience with Back Construction. It is with gratitude and satisfaction I review Shohn and my kitchen transformation. There were many just in time process changes that needed Shohns' expertise and patient consideration. He approached them through an experienced eye and one by one sought a solution , never an excuse. This is a testimony to.his professionalism and attention to detail. Thanks Back Construction for choosing top quality staff. Thank you Shohn for taking care of me like you would your family.
Back Construction helped turn my rental property from the ugliest house on the street to one of the best-looking by designing and building a super-custom open gable porch roof to replace an outdated awning. The project was complicated by the need to work with multiple residents and me, the owner, but clear communication from start to finish made the process easier. They were conscientious about my budget without cutting corners on the quality, appearance, or service.
I was very pleased with Schon Holman who repaired a faucet incorrectly installed and repaired cabinet damaged by water. Back was quickly responsive to my request and adjusted original estimate when work was done. I would highly recommend Back.
Highly recommend Back Construction! They screened in part of our deck and built a pergola. The project went smooth from beginning to end. The sales manager and project manager were easy to work with and took everything into consideration. The work crew were very professional, on time and cleaned up daily. Our screened in porch has become our favorite part of the house! We will definitely be using Back Construction again.
I couldn't speak more fondly on my experience with Back Construction. We had the columns on our front porch repaired and we are extremely pleased with the workmanship. Schon Holman and Tom Gebhart were very professional. The Home was built in the 1800s and with the original columns still standing, the team took extra care in the repair and their preservation. They also were able to lift the porch and level out the roof which seemed like quite a task. Im very happy with the outcome. They even gave advice and information on the products they used for future reference. Thank you very much Back Construction. I will be recommending your work to others.
